CSCS CARD FAST TRACK STEPS
1 – Complete the Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification.
It is mandatory that all green CSCS card holders have this L1 Health and Safety qualification. In the past this wasn’t necessary but this changed in 2020 when it become a requirement. The qualification covers topics such as working at height, safe use of chemicals and how to avoid the common accidents and injuries common to UK construction workers. 2- Complete your Health, Safety and Environment Test
I know what you are thinking, another test!! To get a CSCS labourer card you must have your level 1 health and safety qualification and complete a touchscreen multiple choice test. Unfortunately this test cannot be completed online and you must attend a local test centre to take it. The good news is there are over 300 test centres in the UK so there is bound to be at least one close by and at labourer card training we know exactly how to book it and what you will need to pass.
So after you have completed your health and safety level 1 training we will take you through the steps of booking and passing your touchscreen test.
3- Order your card
Once your health and safety level 1 is completed and you have passed your touchscreen test all is left is to order your green CSCS card. The Green CSCS Labourer Card is the most popular CSCS card available as it opens up many opportunities for work and starting your construction career in the UK. Unfortunately because of this it has become a target for fraudsters who offer unofficial and illegal counterfeit CSCS cards.
These are often advertised on Facebook and tiktok pages as well as Whatsapp and Telegram groups. They can be easy to spot as most will advertise that a person can get their CSCS card without taking any exams or will also advertise NVQ certificates and even drivers licenses and birth certificates.
The Problem–
To many people getting a green CSCS card can seem complicated and confusing so the idea of not having to pass any exams to get one is appealing.
Some of the problems are however that many times people have paid the people advertising these cards and never received them or they have received an obvious poor quality fake card that they can never gain access to a site with thus they lose all their money.
The better quality fraudulent cards do look more realistic, however as they are not registered with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme they do not have official serial numbers.
This means that when these cards are checked they are easily exposed as fake. This can lead to labourers losing their jobs, not being paid, being blacklisted by employers and recruitment agencies and potentially not being covered by site insurance!

Of course there is an initial investment to get the CSCS card such as taking your Level 1 Health and Safety qualification, completing your touch screen test and then ordering your card. With that in mind lets consider what type of jobs are available to green CSCS card holders to see if this investment is worth it.
The jobs a green CSCS can get you are –
Construction Site Labourer
It’s no surprise that number one on our list is a construction labourer after all the CSCS green card is also known as the labourer card. A construction site labourer helps a site to run smoothly and safely by providing materials for skilled trades, keeping the site tidy and looking after tools. An experienced construction site labourer is a valuable part of any site and will understand the process of bricklaying, plastering, groundworks, and internal fit out as well as understanding how a site runs and operates.
This makes it a fantastic position to start a construction career as a labourer gets to experience and understand about many different parts of construction and then they can decide if they would like to go on and specialise in a specific trade themselves.
A quick search on indeed.co.uk will show over a 1000 current positions available for construction labourers in the UK with some hourly rates as high as £20 per hour and some yearly salaries on offer of up to £32,000.
The labourer trade has never been stronger in the UK and with more homes and developments being built in the country it really is an excellent time to get your green CSCS card and take advantage of these opportunities.
Construction Site Cleaning
Construction site cleaners also known as builder’s cleaners, clean new build construction sites when the building work has been completed on a project. Generally the cleaning involves removing construction dust from windows, bathrooms and kitchens before the clients are given the keys to the property and as the projects are brand new there is rarely anything too gross that requires cleaning. Often construction cleaners will try to complete multiple projects in one day and sometimes they are working on sites that are still active in parts so a green CSCS card will allow you to access this site to complete your work.
The work is physical and fast paced but not too difficult when you know what products to use and we have seen some jobs advertised here in a salary range of £15-25 per hour.
Event Staff
The summertime festivals and concerts in the UK can present a unique opportunity for green CSCS card holders. Many of these festivals require labourers to help with stage construction, site maintenance and safety. We have seen jobs advertised in the spring time for labourers working on some of the biggest festivals and concerts all over the UK. Although they are not technically building sites having a green CSCS card is a great qualification to show you are Health and Safety aware and compliant and you know what is required to work in a physically demanding role.
So keep your eyes out in the spring of 2025 and you may be getting paid to spend your summer in some of the most exciting events in the UK.
Specialist Labourer
As well as construction site labouring specialist construction firms are often recruiting for CSCS green card holders. This could include working with a specialist scaffolding, groundworks, bricklaying, landscaping or kitchen fitting firm for example. The benefits of this are you will get the opportunity to really understand this aspect of construction and over time it will usually lead to specialist training in this area to help you become and expert in this trade.
